So what is CSCMP and why would it be important to my business?
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and their approach to logistics and supply chain has been described as; “With respect to the relationship between logistics and supply chain management, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) views logistics activities as being part of managing one’s supply chain. In addition, activities involved in sourcing, procuring, and manufacturing are also involved. CSCMP also asserts the need to work with multiple parties, including suppliers, third-party service providers, and end customers as an organization integrates supply and demand management internally and with other companies in the supply chain” (Education, 1/2018, p. 390).
The part that interests me is the how CSCMP promotes working with multiple parties. While searching their website I noticed how they offer their members so many opportunities to network with others in their profession. Their round tables offer insight into how other companies operate and share information on new innovative ideas. Because they are global, finding a charter is easy. They offer online classes in supply change management and host a conference that introduces the latest innovations in technology for supply chains, networking opportunities and speakers with the most up to date information to share. As their website states:
“The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) is the leading global association for supply chain management professionals. We have been helping our members, their careers, and their companies since 1963. Nine thousand members worldwide receive unparalleled networking opportunities, cutting-edge research, and online and on-site professional educational opportunities” (CSCMP).
Through education and networking, they give their members the opportunity to use all of their resources to help make their business successful. I am a big believer in education and partnering with the suppliers, manufactures, customers, etc. in business. I think the benefits of building long term relationships in your industry is the key to success.
